American alternative rock band Foo Fighters will be headling BlizzCon 2011. The band will play on October 22nd, the closing night of the event, as part of their promotion of their new album 'Wasting Light'. Tickets are sold out but it will be possible for DirecTV subscribers to view their performance.

The Artist Formerly Known as Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain, Blizzard's in-house metal band, will open for Foo Fighters with songs from some of Blizzard's franchise titles.

BlizzCon 2011 will be held from October 21st-22nd at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, in the USA.

Foo Fighters frontman US Dave Grohl said:

"We're pretty sure that in the future, music historians will look back at BlizzCon 2011 as the unquestionable pinnacle of Foo Fighters' long and illustrious career. We look forward to living up to that prediction by bringing the Horde and Alliance together to rock the hell out of Anaheim next month."

Foo Fighters were formed in 1994 by Dave Grohl as an outlet for material he had been working on prior to the death of Nirvana due to Kurt Cobain's suicide. After recording the band's self-titled first album himself he brought in other musicians to form a touring band. Through the band's 17 year lifespan a total of seven studio albums have been released and seven people have been a part of the group. Grohl originally achieved fame as the drummer for Nirvana from their second album onwards.

Foo Fighters have an indirect association with StarCraft since their song 'The Pretender' which was used in the opening intros for the Arena MSL in 2008. Eventual champion FOrGG later acquired the nickname 'Pretender' and the song was often used to introduce him at group selection ceremonies and the like. At that event he defeated Flash and Jaedong in back-to-back Bo5s, preventing the latter from becoming the only Zerg to ever win two straight MSLs.
