NoA/mTw veteran zonic has confirmed to XplayN that Friis will be leaving mTw, less than 2 weeks after joining, to replace dsn in fnatic. mTw will use ave for the upcoming IEM qualifier. In an interview with Danish coverage site XplayN legendary Danish veteran
Danny 'zonic' Sørensen has confirmed that new recruit
Michael 'Friis' Jørgensen will leave
mTw for
fnatic , taking up the place now vacated by
Harley 'dsn' Örwall's retirement. Friis had only joined mTw on the 28th of August, prior to the first IEM New York qualifier, and simultaneously to
Alexander 'ave' Holdt publicly announcing his retirement.
Friis' departure leaves mTw still needing a fifth player for the IEM VI Global Challenge New York final qualifier, so they will use the player whose retirement made way for Friis in the first place: ave. zonic explains that it is unknown yet how much ave will play beyond the qualifier, assuming his team successfully qualifies for the New York event.
The NoA/mTw mainstay also says he is confused by Friis' decision both on financial grounds, since he says the difference in salary is not that much, and competitive reasons, since he feels mTw are stronger than fnatic so it would make more sense to play out the rest of 1.6 with a chance to win trophies. It is also puzzling since mTw had been percieved to be lacking a dedicated AWPer, to take some of the strain off of trace, so many, including zonic, felt Friis was the perfect fit for them.
The XplayN post concludes by listing the 13 Danish teams, including mTw, which Friis has apparently been a part of during his competitive CS career.
mTw 's lineup for the IEM VI Global Challenge New York final qualifier:
Danny 'zonic' Sørensen
Martin Alexander 'trace' Bang Heldt
Oliver 'minet' Ari Minet
Timm 'ArcadioN' Henriksen
Alexander 'ave' Holdt (stand-in)
fnatic 's proposed lineup:
Patrik 'cArn' Sättermon
Rasmus 'GuX' Ståhl
Faruk 'pita' Pita
Richard 'Xizt' Landström
Michael 'Friis' Jørgensen
