OnGameNet host of the prestigious OSL tournament, decides to broadcast Starcraft 2.Currently in South Korea Starcraft: Brood War continues to dominate the E Sports scene, however, slowly but surely Starcraft 2 is creating a dedicated group of Korean players and followers who are growing each day.
With the popularity of Starcraft 2 increasing comes the expansion of its potential as an E Sport, and GomTV's GSLs have been a great and instrumental series of tournaments that have helped popularize Starcraft 2 to a very stubborn culture.
Unfortunately, Starcraft 2 is not a significantly popular title in South Korea, as Koreans seem to prefer the older more refined E Sport of Brood War, then its newer brother. However, it was announced recently that OnGameNet, one of the most popular and famous TV channels to offer E Sports as its main entertainment, and the company that headlines one of the most prestigious Starcraft: Brood War tournaments the OSL or OnGameNet StarLeague, has decided to broadcast the World Cyber Games' Starcraft 2 Preliminaries that start in September.
However, currently this seems to be a one time opportunity for OnGameNet. OGN currently has the broadcasting rights for the World Cyber Games, and the current assumption seems to be that GomTV has given permissions to OGN to broadcast Starcraft 2, due to the World Cyber Games decision to remove Starcraft: Brood War from its E Sport's titles in favor of Starcraft 2.
It should be noted that GomTV or Gretech Corporation still has two more years of exclusive rights as the only company to broadcast Starcraft 2.
