ESL has announced a new format for season 6 of the Intel Extreme Masters which will involve five global challenges.

ESL has announced a new format for season 6 of the Intel Extreme Masters which will involve five global challenges.Season 6 of the Intel Extreme Masters is set to begin on August 17, the start of the first global challenge at gamescon, and with a new season comes a new format to one of Esports most prestigious events.
Teams and players will now be able to qualify for the World Championships by competing in the five global challenges which will now feature qualifiers for the three different regions: America, Europe/Africa and Asia/Australia.
Teams/players will be able to qualify for the World Championships by either securing a top two finish in a global challenge, being the top team of their region in a global challenge or racking up enough points from global challenges to qualify for the championship finals.

Qualification Steps::
Step 1.
One highest ranked team or player from each of the three Intel Extreme Masters regions (the Americas, Europe and Africa, Asia and Oceania) will be invited to the World Championship.
Step 2.
The top 2 teams or players from every Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge will be invited to the World Championship.
Step 3.
The remaining World Championship slots will go to the highest ranked teams or players in the season (those that haven't been invited in steps 1 and 2).

Global Challenges:
The Counter-Strike 1.6 and League of Legends tournaments in every Global Challenge will each feature 8 teams, while every StarCraft II Global Challenge will have 16 participants.
World Championship Finals:
The Intel Extreme Masters World Championship will feature 12 Counter-Strike 1.6 teams, 12 League of Legends teams and 16 StarCraft II players.
Step 1.
