Justin.tv launches eSport network TwitchTV

ImageTwitchTV launches in open beta with the aim of being the number one destination for high quality eSport broadcasts.

Justin.tv has long been home to many gamers who broadcast their talents across the web thanks to its quick accessibility and reliability, but the suits behind the site have opted to take things one step further by launching TwitchTV, a project described as "the largest competitive video gaming broadcasting community in the world."

The network's aim is to collect all of the top streams within the competitive gaming world in one location, where viewers can seamlessly access the best content. The homepage shows a range of games with active streams, meaning you're never far away from a new channel—a problem that was often raised with the clogged, inaccurate search feature on Justin.tv.

"This is just the start of what we want to build," said Emmett Shear, co-founder and CTO of Justin.tv, and general manager of TwitchTV. "We designed this site to support the e-sports community. Since everyone on the team is a gamer, it's a site made by e-sports fans, for e-sports fans."

TwitchTV also utilizes a partner program where both gamers and tournaments share advertising revenue generated by their streams. Further potential money-makers in the works include pay-per-view and subscription-based packages which will grant viewers ad-free viewing, exclusive content, and other benefits.

Despite officially launching just two days ago at E3, Justin.tv say that TwitchTV currently generates 3.2 million unique visits per month, 4.5 hours of video viewed per person per month, and more than 45 million total video views per month.
