ImageSK Gaming officially signs AWPer Delpan to its CS team. fnatic will apparently fill the hole he leaves with Gux.

Today SE SK Gaming can officially announce the signing of SE Marcus 'Delpan' Larsson to its Swedish Counter-Strike team. SE Fnatic will apparently sign SE Lions swe player SE Rasmus 'GuX' Ståhl to fill the hole Delpan's departure leaves in their lineup.

Delpan comes fresh off helping fnatic reach the final of the Swedish WCG qualifier yesterday. When his former team meet SE SK Gaming in that final, to be played at DreamHack Summer, next month he will be wearing SK colours.

SE Christopher 'GeT_RiGhT' Alesund
SE Johan 'face' Klasson

SE Marcus 'Delpan' Larsson

SE Budak, the team's coach, had this to say about the acquisition:

"This team is and has been a very important part of my daily life. Since 2007, after bds confronted me to join SK Gaming, I have been the coach and on top of that the mentor of the SK Gaming CS team. My feeling tells me that this step, signing Delpan, is the missing link to success this year. With this move we aren't stealing a player from another organisation. If a player wishes to become a part of SK, or vice-versa, we will try everything to make this possible. Welcome Marcus!"

Delpan answered some questions about the move, his old team and his new one:

What are your thoughts and feelings on joining SK Gaming?

Hey! It feels good, I was really unmotivated the last two tournaments in fnatic so I thought it could be good to change team when I had the oppertunity to do it.

What kind of role do you see yourself having for SK? Will it be similar to the one you played for fnatic?

I guess I'll be the main AWPer like I was in fnatic for sure, and it will be the same but with different players.

Some people said SK had formed a "dream team" when they took in f0rest and GeT_RiGhT at the beginning of this year. With your reputation as one of the best AWPers in the world would you say the same about this new SK lineup?

Yea I could say we have a "dreamteam" coming up since GeT_RiGhT and f0rest have been some of the best players for a long time now so I guess time will tell :)

Having played for both fnatic and now SK you've seen the fnatic-SK rivalry up close. Do you think these changes will make the matches more intense the next times the teams meet? Do you look forward to facing fnatic?

Haha fnatic-SK will always be a good match with much feelings, and it'll be fun to play against my old team at Dreamhack!

When you played with SK, as a stand-in, for WEM in late 2010 the lineup contained only one of the current SK players, face. What should we expect from this era of SK Gaming CS?

That's correct, I think we are going to do real damage and I cant wait until next tournament and see what we can do.

Any final words you'd like to add?

I'd like to thank my old team-mates for a good time, the fnatic organisation and the other guys I worked with. I'm looking forward to playing with SK in 2011, and thank you all the fans out there who believe in me!

Delpan in action:

Delpan's competitive history

Delpan was well known within Sweden as a player at the semi-pro level for a number of years and helped Begrip.swe defeat SK Gaming and H2k (face, kHRYSTAL, niko, threat and FYRR73) to win the IOL Season 1 Final Four in late August of 2009. When that team signed with MYM Delpan quickly became an international star as his incredible AWPing helped his team to 2nd place at IEM IV Dubai and 1st place at DreamHack Winter 2009.

After MYM fell apart in the middle of 2010 Delpan found himself playing the role of a gun for hire as he stood-in for a Lions at KGC #2 and then SK Gaming at WEM, helping the latter to 2nd place at the Chinese event. After the blockbuster trades which saw f0rest, GeT_RiGhT and Gux leave the fnatic lineup Delpan was recruited to the team.

At the IEM V European Championship, the team's first event, fnatic finished first, with Delpan winning a crucial 1v1 in the last round of the first overtime session on train to prevent his team being eliminated in second place. Since then fnatic's results have been significantly less spectacular as they bowed out of the IEM V World Championship in 5th-6th place in March and Xperia PLAY in 5th-8th in April. They most recently won the fnatic PLAY online tournament, defeating TCM in the final.

Will Gux sign with fnatic for the third time in three years?

Should Gux sign with fnatic it will mark the third time he has done so. In early 2009 the former Blank player signed with fnatic, along with GeT_RiGhT, and helped spark their legendary run which broke the prize money record for a single year. Having been removed from fnatic at the end of 2010 GuX began playing with SK just before the IEM IV World Championship. At that event he helped them to 3rd place overall.

More success followed at SK including 2nds at Arbalet Best-of-Four and ESWC. Shortly before Arbalet Cup Dallas he signed with fnatic for a second time, a move which helped the Swedish team take down titles at GameGune, IEM V Shanghai and KGC #2 in the following months.
