fnatic have defeated TCM-Gaming in the grand finals of the fnatic PLAY #2 tournament to be crowned winners of the event.Following a long and delayed semi-final match between
TCM-Gaming and
DTS , the match between
fnatic and TCM finally got under way at the end of last night.
Map 1 - de_nuke
fnatic started off their campaign to become the fnatic PLAY CS #2 champions by taking the knife round on de_nuke. As expected, the Swedes took the CT side and took the first pistol round followed by the second round. On the third round however, TCM decided to buy up instead of saving for the fourth round, even though they spawned in poor locations. TCMs gamble payed off and the Danes managed to take the round, however they failed to capitalize on their advantage and lost the next two rounds in quick succession. From then on, the Danes only managed to secure another three rounds as Terrorists with fnatics defensive wall proving to be a tough one to crack. With
Marcus 'Delpan' Larsson going huge on the 8th round in ramp and taking out four players, three with an m4 and one with a grenade after losing his awp the prior round, and also
Harley 'dsn' Örwall using good map awareness to break the composure of TCM during the last round after pushing outside, fnatic seemed to be all set for taking the next half of the map, however TCM had already showed that they have some tricks up their sleeves throughout the playoff bracket and were keen to show them off to fnatic.
First half score: TCM 4 - 11 fnatic
TCM began their CT side by pushing ramp room with four people while fnatic pushed outside. fnatic attempted to push through birds nest but failed to secure the round and as a result TCM were able to secure the first two rounds. The Swedes decided to arm themselves with AKs for the third round and just like the Danes their gamble was successful. Unlike TCM however, fnatic took advantage of their round win, taking the next two rounds easily. After trading some rounds, the end of the 8th round saw fnatic take their 15th round, however TCM managed to hold off the Swedes for 6 rounds in a row before TCM lost a 2v2 in upper, giving fnatic the first map.
Second half score: TCM 10 - 5 fnatic
Overall map score: TCM 14 - 16 fnatic
Map 2 - de_inferno
The second map started with a confrontation between the two sides on banana with fnatic having the upper hand as CTs. TCM played into the hands of a fnatic who stacked banana with three players, foreseeing that the Danes would push there and as a result fnatic took the first round followed by a massive ten rounds in quick succession. Failing to manage their money correctly and poor communication was without a doubt what caused TCM to be ran over by fnatic, however on the 12th round TCM finally pulled their act together. With
Danny 'BERRY' Krüger going huge and taking three men out follwed successfully securing a bomb plant after a banana push, TCM managed to take their first round of the map followed by their second. The Swedes however were quick to react to the change in spirit and retaliated by taking last two rounds, giving TCM almost no chance of a comeback in the second half.
First half score: TCM 2 - 13 fnatic
In the first pistol round, fnatic met TCM in the middle of the map following an aggressive push by the CTs, however fnatic clearly out-aimed the CTs and took the first round. TCM decided to buy deagles in an attempt to hold off the fnatic buy round, however their plan failed with the Swedes taking the second round all guns blazing. With no money left, TCM were easily stomped on by fnatic in the third round to win the series.
Second half score: TCM 0 - 3 fnatic
Overall map score: TCM 2 - 16 fnatic
Although fnatic won the grand finals of the event and placed first, the Swedes decided to hand their prizes down to second place finishers TCM, meaning that the second place prize would move down to the third place finishers.
The Russian team Virtus.Pro and Ukraine's DTS were originally suppose to battle it out for the third place, however the fnatic PLAY organisers decided to disqualify DTS from the event due being "unmannered towards the FnaticMSI PLAY organizers in public and private". As a result, Virtus.Pro will receive the third place prize and the fourth place finisher will be decided at a later date.
