US SK Gaming has been disqualified from GosuCup HoN #1 due to violating roster rules.

US Mark 'Tralfamadore' Seidl:
"To SK Gaming, Gosugamers.net and fans,

As most of you probably know, SK.HoN was disqualified from the GosuCup HoN #1 tournament yesterday during our 2nd match against Reason Gaming.

Due to inconsistent schedules and it being Mother's Day weekend, we were put in a position to find a ringer to replace Fogged after winning game 1 against Reason Gaming. Since we were given the 'OK' to use Merlini, a well-known dota figure, in the line-up I mistakingly assumed that it would be okay to use a ringer in the 2nd match. We chose Era, a well-known solid European player from team mtFu and a good friend. We had him jump on Fogged's account to speed up an already delayed match.

Our intentions were not meant to dupe anyone from GosuGamers or Reason Gaming - we were not trying to put together a "secret dream-team" - it was literally a scheduling conflict with Fogged, and other members (Cardinal and Joshp) were idle and gone due to prior commitments.

With that being said, on behalf of SK Gaming and everyone on the team we are sorry about what has happened, and can assure that different actions will be taken in the future so that this doesn't happen again.

Regards,
Mark 'Tralfamadore' Seidl"

CA Nick 'Testie' Perentesis also posted a comment with his view on the issue of ringing:
"Ringing has become so commonplace among the competitive scene that I don't think it has been seen as a bad thing anymore by most competitive players. As the ringer in question is seen as lending a helping hand to a team that needs to make a scheduled match or has an issue, thus saving them and doing a favor. Since most teams have been in this situation, it is not frowned upon as much as it should be. This does not excuse the fact, but it is just information for the public on how it is viewed among teams. This does not speak for all teams, but most to my knowledge.

However, in reality it is a cancer to the legitimacy of tournaments and it should be punished and is best to get rid of it entirely. It is something future tournaments may want to continue looking out for. Tourney admins should be able to have the vent info and check up on players from time to time and be more aware of telltale signs, such as ping to certain servers or odd hero choices. Though the latter is definitely nothing to go by and shouldn't be acted on unless other evidence is there.

Long story short, regardless of who's idea on the team it was to use a ringer, we are all to blame for being too stupid or short sighted to not try for another approach such as asking the admins if we can reschedule. To everyone, it will not happen again.

It is my hope that this situation makes tourney admins wiser and helps to keep future tournaments legitimate as I personally dislike the use of ringers. Overall, I'm glad this happened as it would be a great improvement in the competitive scene if this is something tournaments would seek out and punish more actively."

Once again, SK Gaming would like to apologize to the Heroes of Newerth community and the Gosugamers.net tournament organizers for violating tournament rules.
