The organisers behind e-Stars Seoul 2011 have revealed that the event will feature 16 teams, a double elimination format and $78,042 in prize money. The organisers behind the e-Stars Seoul event have announced information for their 2011 event. Taking place from August 19th to 21st in Seoul, South Korea, the e-stars Seoul 2011 Beat IT Championship will have a prize purse of $78,042 and feature 16 teams in total.
Fan voting will against play a role in the selection of the competing teams, though defending champions
Frag eXecutors have automatically retained a spot. Fans will get their chance to vote over the period of the 23rd of May to the 30th of June.
This year's event sees a number of significant changes. Firstly Counter-Strike is the only game being featured due to the ongoing IP rights lawsuit involving Blizzard and the South Korean StarCraft community leading the organisers to boycott Blizzard games. In the past WC3 had been a fixture of the event and there would have been a good chance of SC2 making an appearance had the lawsuit not occured.
Also the event now doubles the number of teams attending as well as switches to a double elimination format rather than the single elimination system of previous years. The other event held by e-Stars' organisers, WEM, also featured double elimination at last year's event.
e-Stars Seoul 2011 saw the return of FX to the top as they defeated WeMade FOX 2:1 in the final. WeMade FOX had surprised fnatic by defeating them in a Bo3 after the Swedes had flawlessly won the Continental cup for Europe the day before, taking down all comers.
