Jokes on you
The last time Evil Geniuses and fnatic battled it out, four months ago in the Gosugamers.net Steelseries World Cup, fnatic dominated and sent EG to the losers bracket. In anticipation of this match-up, however, it was well known that the europeans are in quite bad form, not managing to qualify for the ESL Master Series VIII via any of the four qualifiers and losing to
Reason Gaming 2-0 in the SK Gaming HoN Tournament #1 just hours prior to the derby.
Fans' fears were temporarily put to rest, however, as fnatic dominated the first match of the series as EG's tri-ranged carry line-up couldn't handle their stun heavy agressive team.
Balphagore was the off-the-wall pick in the second match, but
Johan 'n0tail' Sundstein didn't have the impact he'd hope for. Instead it was his countryman
Mathias-Benjamin 'SemiJew' Larsen who took the game into his hands, finishing it with an 18-0-9 score with Thunderbringer.
With the result tied up, EG went for picks that are well within their comfort zone, while fnatic continued with the surprises, the trilane Blacksmith being it this time round. The match statistics were equal up until 23 minutes into the game, when EG stops fnatic's Kongor attempt, genocides them and steals the token, accumulating an advantage that snowballed for the rest of the game.
Evil Geniuses win 2-1 and are our first participant of the Grand Final, while fnatic drops to the losers bracket and will have to try to fight their way back.
Losers bracket fixtures
DuskBin vs
SK Gaming
Dirty Minds vs
sGty
Action continues on Sunday, 20th March at 21:00 CET, with a livestream by Honcast.
