SK Gaming won the fifth and last qualifier and clinched their spot in the Gamereplays Tournament Season 3 $2.500 Invitational which starts this Sunday, January 23rd.The Gamereplays Tournament Seasons are one of the most prestigious and longest running Heroes of Newerth tournaments and we are currently in it's third incarnation.
The Gamereplays Tournament Season 3 featured five qualifiers in which teams were awarded points based on their performances. Now, 8 teams that accumulated the most points on the ladder, will compete in the Gamereplays Tournament Season 3 Invitational for a shot at the $2.500 prize pool.
While the first two qualifiers were, as expected, dominated by
fnatic the remaining three went to
sGty ,
Evil Geniuses and
SK Gaming , respectively. Going into the last qualifier, SK Gaming needed to go all the way to the finals in order to secure their spot in the invitational (due to them participating in only one previous qualifier, where they lost in the second round). However, they managed to outdo this requirement as they went all the way and grabbed the title. The four other participants of the invitational will be
Infused.Tt eSPORTS , who played extremely well throughout the season, getting at least to the semi-finals of every qualifier they participated in;
DuskBin ,
Inner Circle Elite and
Team Wahlin .
Gamereplays TS3 Qualifier 1 Winner:
fnatic
Gamereplays TS3 Qualifier 2 Winner:
fnatic
Gamereplays TS3 Qualifier 3 Winner:
sGty
Gamereplays TS3 Qualifier 4 Winner:
Evil Geniuses
Gamereplays TS3 Qualifier 5 Winner:
SK Gaming
The teams have been seeded in the invitational according to their placement on the Tournament Season 3 ladder and thus we're up for a treat from the get-go.
Gamereplays Tournament Season 3 Invitational Brackets
(1)
fnatic vs (8)
Inner Circle Elite
fnatic is the favorite not only for this first round match-up, but of the whole tournament considering their impeccable form throughout the season (81% wins). However, Inner Circle Elite is more than capable of producing an upset, as they have done on several occasions in the past.
(2)
Infused.Tt eSPORTS vs (7)
Team Wahlin
As I already mentioned, Team Infused has been one of the most consistent performers throughout the season, boasting an impressive 71 win percent as they managed to grab the second seed although they didn't win any of the qualifiers. Team Wahlin's form, on the other hand, has seen a downward trend and I can't see them proceeding to the second round.
(3)
Evil Geniuses vs (6)
SK Gaming
Despite this being just the first round match-up, it'll probably be the highlight of the entire tournament, as it always is when Evil Geniuses and SK Gaming go up against each other, thanks to the archrival status of it. Recently, these two teams seemed to have swapped positions and now it seems as if Team EG is in a bit of a slump while SK has been performing solidly. However, it would be too bold of me to try and predict the outcome of this one - it could really go either way.
(4)
sGty vs (5)
DuskBin
The two neighboring seeds should provide an entertaining match-up. Finale, although winning the third qualifier (with much help from ringers), haven't produced as much magical moments in the entire season as did DuskBin in the last qualifier. Thus, I predict the lower seeded sole Asian representative to continue their run in this tournament.
The Gamereplays Tournament Season 3 $2.500 Invitational is set to start at 20:00 CET this Sunday, 23rd January 2011.
Livestream will be available via Gamereplays.
