The New Keyboard Provides Gamers with Layers of Customization through Interchangeable Keysets for Licensed Blockbuster Titles
CHICAGO, Sept. 23, 2010 – Today, as the leading manufacturer of gaming peripherals and accessories as well as product partner to some of the world’s most successful game publishers, SteelSeries announced the new SteelSeries Shift gaming keyboard. Named for the ability to alter its appearance and functionality through interchangeable keysets, the SteelSeries Shift brings gamers advanced customization capabilities that improve the way they approach, experience, and master their game.
“With the introduction of the SteelSeries Shift, we’re able to bring another unique and powerful gaming tool to consumers, said SteelSeries CEO, Bruce Hawver. “The Shift greatly expands the functionality and concept of the original Zboard, which joined our product line in 2008 as a result of our acquisition of Ideazon, with new SteelSeries features that will provide gamers with a keyboard experience that can be customized for all types of games. As we bring the SteelSeries Shift to market, we are continuing to work with the best developers and publishers in the games industry to offer player’s unique layouts and functionalities that will enhance their entire gaming experience.”
Premium Build Quality
The interchangeable keyset design is the only common denominator between the SteelSeries Shift and Zboard. The new keyboard was constructed from ground up with high-quality, strong materials that add durability and functionality. The base of the Shift and the new Shift Keysets are all made with premium plastic and finishes for a superior look and feel. With three height levels, extra wide feet, and a wrist rest that include rubber inserts to prevent slipping, users are able to choose what feels most comfortable for their preferences. Additional hardware features include:
• Gold plated audio-out and microphone-in 3.5mm ports
• 2 USB 2.0 ports, including 1 powered
• LED indicators to alert when profiles and functions are active
On board memory allows users to easily record up to 3 layers of on-the-fly macros at the top of the SteelSeries Shift base and have access to instant media controls on the left side of the keyboard. The Bar and Pad Lock keys allow additional layers of mapping on the F and NUM Pad keys that can be utilized in games or in daily applications.
Every key on the SteelSeries Shift can be customized; more than just macros, players can record a sequence of actions with delays and then map that sequence to a single key. Users can then program advanced capabilities in multiple layers per key. Players can take advantage of an endless amount of layered movements with the support of its anti-ghosting capability, which allows up to simultaneous 7 keystrokes.
Customized Gaming Terrain
Equipped with an advanced chip reader in the SteelSeries Shift base, users can easily interchange SteelSeries Shift Keysets from the Standard QWERTY Keyset, which is included, to licensed Keysets of blockbuster game titles that are each sold separately. Every keyset is uniquely designed in cooperation with game publishers and configured with input from expert players to establish an intuitive command setup and predefined game mods for games of all types.
The SteelSeries Shift and Shift Keysets are forward and backward compatible with SteelSeries Zboard and Zboard Keysets. Keysets that support backwards compatibility includes Aion™, World of Warcraft®: Wrath of the Lich King, and StarCraft® II: Wings of Liberty. BUYING it.
That's my opinion to buy it ... i play WoW at a professional level and the macro or customize function of the keys is very good and important for me, i also play starcraft 2 and there you need it to. I use at the moment the Logitech G15, but i don't like the "G" keys to customize or macro function.
ps: sorry for my bad english ;)
• Gold plated audio-out and microphone-in 3.5mm ports
• 2 USB 2.0 ports, including 1 powered
• LED indicators to alert when profiles and functions are active
• Changeable keyboard Panel
This keyboard has everything a gamer can ask for.
I, myself is a very big fan of Steelseries. And again they have come with a brand new product that will help us gamers for a better and much more enjoyable playing sessions.
Soo at the end this keyboard is very good designed and it gives good performance.
bye :)
ı will buy it :P
In the games like HoN, WC3, SC2 and World of Warcraft where much is about your bindings this will make gaming much more easier, is it possible to swap the "H" key to Caps Lock's spot? In that case words can't describe this keyboard enough.
Also, that you can change the height of the keyboard is very nice and the outstanding number of pressing you can do on one key is cool but as the competition were about the thing you like best I say that fully customizable key's wins.
Lego is the most enjoyable toy in the world. SteelSeries Shift is lego keyboard. I'm in love!
going for this one :P
Why?
You can customize every key wherever you want, how is that even possible? People like me who have not-so-big-hands can take a really high advantage of this keyboard. For example, I play Counter Strike and move myself with WASD, and I have binded the '0' key for a grenade but I can't reach it fast enough?
Well, the Steelseries Shift makes the impossible to actually possible by changing the '0' key for the 'Caps Lock' key.
The customize key advantage not only applies for First Person Shooters games, it also applies for games such as World of Warcraft, Warcraft 3, Starcraft e.t.c. You can customize everything which makes you feel comfortable with your keyboard!
Some people say keyboards don't matter for gaming, now that's wrong. Keyboards sure affects your gameplay a lot. You have to feel comfortable with it, hence the Shift offers 3 different height levels and ensures steadiness. It is also about responsiveness, preference and functionality, the Shift's got it'all.
Don't like cables all around your computer? Well, the Shift have 2 USB ports, gold plated audio-out and microphone-in 3.5mm ports and LED indicators to alert when profiles and functions are active. How cool is that?!
The new sleek cool design is just lovely, the quality of the keyboard is priceless. Do you sometimes play a intense game and then you starts sweating and you're slipping on your keyboard? Well, the new rubber inserts to prevent slipping is your lifesaver.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To sum it up, the new Steelseries Shift Gaming Keyboard got it all and moves the gaming industry to a new level.
This keyboard is also great for every-day routines. There are many audio buttons for music lovers. The keyboard is also very affordable. I suggest buying the Steelseries Shift because i love it.
