ImageStarCraft progamer July, golden mouse winner for three OSL titles, has announced he is moving to StarCraft II competition. "The God of War" is to play in the GSLs and for an as yet unannounced new team.

Korean profesional StarCraft gamer KR Sung Joon 'July' Park has announced he is moving into the world of StarCraft II competition. The 23 year old* player's contract with StarCraft Proleague team STX Soul ended in August and he did not sign another. An official announcement of the new StarCraft II team he is joining is expected soon.

Explaining his move July said:

"Because I didn't have many opportunities to play in official matches, I felt my purpose on the team diminish. I really wanted to play in a match. During this time, I got to play Starcraft 2. At the beginning, I didn't have much interest in it, but over time, I got more and more interested and soon after I decided that I wanted to be active as a gamer in Starcraft 2 as I got better at the game."

On his current SC2 level:

"because I had experience playing Starcraft as a progamer, I'm getting better rapidly. I'm currently the first place in my Diamond League, and I'm over 1500 points."

On the GSL:

"I've been watching the players who has passed the preliminaries of Season 1, and I thought I could have definitely won."

July, or JulyZerg as he was once known, is known to fans of South Korean StarCraft as "Tushin", which translates to "The God of War", and was beloved for his aggressive Zerg style. During his competitive peak he was famous for his mutalisk micro control.

July was the second player, of three so far, to obtain the golden mouse for three OSL titles. He won the 2004 Gilette OSL over Reach, the 2005 Ever OSL over Goodfriend and the 2008 Ever OSL over BeSt. Interestingly each of July's three OSL titles were won during the month of July.

July was also the second player to ever attempt to win the golden mouse, BoxeR having failed four times prior. His loss to iloveoov, his famous rival, denied him the mouse while NaDa collected the first after a victory at ShinHan2006-2 OSL. Seven seasons later July resurrected his individual career and underwent a run of three consecutive ZvP matchups in the EVER OSL of 2008 to win the golden mouse, the finals series being famous for the "drone drill" which caused Bisu's mouth to drop open in astonishment.

Despite his individual successes July's team success was chequered. Winning the Proleague with MBCgame in 2006 led to him leaving for the prestigious SKT T1 team and a high salary. July's play while for SKT was not good in the team leagues even though he continued to play well in individual leagues. After a year he was released and moved on to STX Soul in 2008.

Following his golden mouse win his career returned to the lower key it had been idling in and there was even a time this year when he was not on the Proleague bench for STX Soul. As a result it is less of a surprise he would try his hand at StarCraft II.
