EG are champions of Beat IT
Evil Geniuses are the champions of Beat IT following a three map series against fnatic in the final. They take home $15,000 and laptops.
Evil Geniuses did the improbable and overcame the mighty
fnatic lineup to win the final of Beat IT in Beijing, China. After battling past TyLoo in three close maps the Americans overcame perhaps the world's best team in a three map series which saw a double overtime middle game. For their victory EG receive $15,000 and laptops.
fnatic 12:16
Evil Geniuses (dust2 - 9:6, 3:10)
fnatic 22:20
Evil Geniuses (nuke - 4:11, 11:4, OT1 - 1:2, 2:1 OT2 - 1:2, 3:0)
fnatic 7:16
Evil Geniuses (train - 3:12, 4:4)
The first map was a classic dust2 battle as the team with the most terrorist rounds took the game. The second, nuke, saw EG manage a very solid 11 CT rounds but then fnatic replied in kind. In the first overtime EG was up but fnatic came back to force a second. In that second EG went up again but then was shut out completely by the Swedes in the second half to knot the series.
The third saw EG doing what it has done best in many of its upset wins in the lurppis era: win big as CT first. fnatic again showed weakness on their terrorist side and were unable to stack up rounds. In the second half there would be no big comeback as EG sealed the deal within eight rounds to take the Beat IT title.
For an EG team will has long struggled at the last hurdle, reaching big semi-finals a number of times, the stars have finally aligned and a title is theirs. Their victory GameGune Mexico last year was quite reasonably underplayed due to having no elite teams in attendance but this victory over fnatic should certainly raise EG's cache in the CS world and build confidence for them going forwards.
Beat IT final standings:
1st
Evil Geniuses - $15,000 + laptops
2nd
fnatic - $7,500
3rd
Lions swe - $2,500
4th
TyLoo

the whole tournament was a big circle. fnatic beat Lions, Lions beat EG, EG beat fnatic, fnatic lost to TyLoo, TyLoo lost to EG
Great tournament. Very unfortunate you weren't there Thorin. Would have been a great interview!
