GomTV backtracks, offers free stream

ImageUnder pressure from fans and the media, GomTV has decided to offer a free stream for the GSL after all.

After the outcry caused by yesterday's story about GomTV charging for streams, it seems the the league has decided to back down. Gretech (the company behind GomTV and the Global Starcraft League) decided just 24 hours before the tournament begins that they will offer a free stream for the GSL after all.

Team Liquid is reporting the story based on emails that were sent to people who had already bought tickets. In the message they are offered a refund or the opportunity to change their ticket for a new kind. If they do opt to keep their current ticket, it will be stretched out to allow the holder to watch the first three monthly seasons, as opposed to just September.

That new ticket, costing $19.95 USD, will give customers to access the high quality (500kb) stream as well as the VODs, which were previously separate. New ticket owners will be able to watch a single monthly season, only people who already bought their tickets will have the three-month option.

The free stream, which begins with the first games tomorrow at 12:00 CET, will run at 250kb. VODs will not be available for free at any quality, so it seems to be a case of watch it live or miss out altogether.
