The first couple of groups in Cologne have finished with SK's representative qualifying from Group A in 2nd place. The group that most would consider the hardest one at IEM is effectively over. The qualified players have already been decided and SK Gaming's own Fredrik 'MaDFroG' Johansson made the cut. After winning his first two games off-stream his final match against Dario 'TLO' Wünsch with first place at stake.
It was the German who came out on top, however, bringing his unique and exciting style to the fore. Game two in particular saw TLO putting near-constant pressure on Madfrog with reapers, then helions, then eventually swapping to thors to end the game. It was all the zerg player could do to hang on as long as he did, clinging to dear life under immense pressure.
With such a tough group two players were always going to be disappointed. Oleksii 'White-Ra' Krupnyk is usually listed among the favourites for most tournaments but he won just one game against Carlo 'ClouD' Giannacco. The Italian himself goes home without a point and with only a single map win.
Group B, on the other hand, is still up for grabs. The last minute stand-in, Carl Stefan 'MorroW' Andersson, is currently the favourite to top the group with his two wins from two games. But in the final round of matches he is currently down 0-1 against Tomasz 'Tarson' BoroĊ. A win for Tarson could even lead to a tie-break if Chris 'HuK' Loranger can win his last game. The Canadian must defeat Dan 'Artosis' Stemkoski in a game which is going on right now. Artosis is currently without a win, but will want to salvage some pride by putting pay to Huk's plans.
The final two groups will be played tomorrow. You can follow SK's coverage right here to find out who emerges from Group B.
