Zotac's new SC2 license comes into effect this weekend. After Benjamin 'DeMusliM' Baker won the last cup of the beta, it was all quiet on the Zotac front. But now the tournament organisers have acquired a license from Blizzard and their first post-retail tournament takes place this Sunday.
Zotac was the original weekly cup back in its InCup days. It started out as a WC3-only tournament, approaching 150 events despite the lowly $100 prize money. But the scope expanded and now Zotac runs tournaments in both Quake Live and Starcraft II as well.
The small but regular payout of prize money attracts a unique mixture of professional and amateur players, as the head admin, Losemann told GosuGamers. "In our tournament they can improve and they compete with better players," he said. "Beating top players also brings them a little fame and maybe a clan offer."
For your own chance at a little fame, register for the Cup #1 on the Zotac site.
