The American championship for the 5th IEM has been announced along with qualification details for the Quake Live and Counter-Strike events.Following the announcement of the
ESL National late last week, details on the qualification process for the American championship have been unveiled. The IEM American Championship will take place October 8-10th in New York City and will feature America's best Quake Live and Counter-Strike players.
In Counter-Strike, 8 online regular season cups will qualify 15 teams for the American IEM playoffs, which will take place in September. Evil Geniuses , the former American champions, will be given an auto berth into the playoffs and will battle for the six available spots at the NYC event.
The online regular season qualification cups start this Monday (July 12) and run every Monday for eight subsequent weeks. Each online cup qualifies two CS teams into the playoffs, with the exception of the first cup, which only qualifies one.
For more details on how to register for the qualification cups visit the ESL National website.
For Quake Live the qualification process is similar where the regular season will be played through 4 online cups (top 3 getting berth to playoffs), with additional spots in the playoffs being given out at the Big Bang LAN 2010 August 5-8th in Iowa. These players will participate in a playoff event in September, and will join the CS teams in October for the IEM American Championship in New York City.
