SK Gaming's rapha bested av3k over two maps to win the ESWC 2010 Quake Live tournament.SK Gaming's Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson has secured yet another international event win after defeating Maciej 'av3k' Krzykowski 2-0 in the ESWC 2010 grand final. The victory is his fifth out of six tournaments and fully asserts the American as the number one Quake Live player around.
His opponent, recent DreamHack champion av3k, had the biggest incentive to win following his campaign in Sweden. He came into the final off an impressive 2-0 victory over Anton 'Cooller' Singov and looked in fine shape throughout the series, but was ultimately out-classed by the unstoppable rapha.
The final opened up on dm13 and rapha picked up a quick frag, but from thereon the two duelers spent three minutes vying for item and map control before the next came about. Superb rockets from rapha completely closed out av3k who was having severe problems with finding a way into the game.
That all changed for the Pole on t7 though, and having free usage of a railgun did him the world of good. He shot out to a 3-0 lead and set about preventing rapha from securing items.
It didn't last long however, and when rapha acquired his own railgun he replicated av3k's prior mastery. Three frags in quick succession tied the game up and, on the back foot, av3k conceded a further three more to fall behind on rapha's map pick. At 6-3 down the match looked like it was over, but a mistake from rapha just above red armor awarded av3k with a chance to get back in the game. He capitalized and narrowed the gap to just one frag, but a poor rush from av3k all but sealed the title for rapha. He ran out the remaining 40 seconds and picked up his fifth successive international tournament win.
Standings:
1st:
Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson - $8,000
2nd:
Maciej 'av3k' Krzykowski - $4,000
3rd:
Anton 'Cooller' Singov - $2,000
