To those who still believe that North-American CS has what it takes to compete on an international stage, your beliefs can live on for another day as both Evil Geniuses and compLexity have made it into the second group stage at the ESWC 2010.

EG started off extremely poorly with a 17-13 loss to the home team of Fair Frag in their opening game on de_nuke. EG did show flashes of brilliance with impressive clutch rounds on behalf of lurppis and n0thing, but clearly it was not enough to push them over the top.

EG quickly found themselves in a must-win situation against PiNG , the team that many thought could upset EG after their decisive victory against Na`Vi back in February at an Arbalet event. Luckily for EG their journey to Paris was not going to end on the first day and they beat the Ukranian's (and their 12-year-old stand-in) by a score of 21-9.

compLexity on the other hand already knew they would be advancing before the tournament began. Due to TyLoo.raw dropping out and k1ck eSports being restored to their original group, their group only had two teams (with top two advancing).

Evil Geniuses finds themselves in Group B alongside Frag eXecutors , mTw and Mousesports . Many would say EG has a snowballs chance in the desert at advancing from this group, but it should be noted that EG did beat mTw and FX at the IEM 4 Global Finals back in March and mTw at the Arbalet Cup Europe in late 2009.

compLexity is not much better off as they are put up against WeMade FOX , fnatic and Team ALTERNATE in Group D. With their impressive 14-16 loss against Na`Vi earlier today it could be argued that they are off to a great start. With that being said, they have only played one match in this tournament, so that could end up hurting them going into day 2.

Group B with EG will begin to play at 10:30 CET tomorrow with coL and Group D beginning their matches at 14:00 CET. The top two teams from each group will advance into the playoffs.
