RobbaN: "there is always work to be done"

ImageSK Gaming member RobbaN talks about his transition from player to leader, his thoughts on Dreamhack and the day away ESWC event.

Last weekend, Robert 'RobbaN' Dahlström and the rest of SK Gaming attended Dreamhack where they competed in three tournaments. The end result saw them take 2nd in the Swedish WCG qualifier, enough to secure a place in the Nordic WCG qualifiers later this year, 1st in the IOL Season 2 finals and 4th in the main DH tournament.

A lot of people were eager to see SK in action now you have taken over the leadership, how has the transition from player to leader gone for you?

Its been going fine, I guess it will take a few tournaments to get into it more, I mean you have to play the top teams a few times and learn of the bad calls you do ingame and learn from it. Its really painful to make a bad call and know that your the one that lost the round for your team because of a bad call.

Obviously nothings perfect to start with, but have you seen any improvements in the team since taking over? Is there still work to be done?

ImageI don't know to be honest, I guess its to the other teams and player to say if there is a improvement, there is always work to be done until you win every game with 16-0 =)

How are the other players in SK Gaming adjusting to you now calling the shots? Have there been any disagreements among yourselves?

No, they're mostly doing a great job listening to me =) haven't really been a problem.

Back in 2008 you won Dreamhack Winter whilst leading SK Gaming, what aspects of your leadership do you think define you as a leader, in contrast to other leaders, and how do they impact the team?

I'm old, happy and making a lot of good jokes! hehe ;P

Moving on from the team, lets talk performances. Last weekend you attended Dreamhack Summer, where you played three events, how was that for you? Were you pleased with the outcome?

Yes, it was my first event as ingame, and I think it went ok. It felt that we had control of all the games we played except against mTw, it really felt like they were better then us that match. mtw is a hard team to play against, and i have to think and change a lot of things before we play them next time.
Oh yea, we were really happy to win Inferno-Online League finals and qualify for WCG.

ImageOne of your more memorable victories at Dreamhack was beating fnatic in the IOL Finals, with the sk-fnatic rivalry going back some time and them coming out on top in the majority of encounters, how does it compare to beating other teams in finals? Does the victory seem sweeter?

I don't think I'm more happy beating fnatic in a final then some other team, no. I just want to win, doesn't matter who it would be against. But I love to play against fnatic, its always fun matches and a lot of action, they're playing a style that doesn't make you bored while playing.

In the main tournament, you lost to Concode after you defeated fnatic, then you lost to mTw after beat NaVi. Why do you think you couldn't maintain your consistency?

Oh yea, well the Concode game was the last game of the day and we were already through to the playoffs, when you face a team like that its not the same thing like to play a quarter final against navi. Concode play good and we bad, and I did a lot of bad calls during that match that I will try not to repeat :).

The new ESWC owners have certainly made an impact on the scene, announcing an event with a huge prize pot and backing it up with a bank guaranty. Knowing the old owners promised money which was never paid, what are your thoughts on the announcement and back guaranty?

It looks good of course, if they wouldn't have showed a bank guaranty I doubt many teams would have go to ESWC because of the last owners didn't pay out.

A lot of teams have had more time to prepare due to them not having a busy schedule like yourselves, so how do you prepare for an event of this calibre with such little time to do so?

Yea well we have 2 days now to pracc as much as we can and try to fix the problems we had on dreamhack, fix few new gunrounds and repair small mistakes.

ImageWhat are your goals for ESWC? Do you have a specific place to finish or certain teams to beat?

We want to win, I've been on 3 ESWC's I think and never made a good place finish, I hope this is the time to get that :)

With there being twenty six teams in attendance, there most definitely is a lot of talent between you and first place, so who would you most like to face and least like to face, and why?

Yea there is a lot of good teams going there, it will be a really hard tournament and you really have to be at the top of your game all the days to have a chance end up 1st. I really don't have a team that I don't want to face, or want to play against.

The Danish team of mTw sent you home at Dreamhack, how good would it feel for you to do the same at ESWC if you where to defeat them in the brackets?

Revenge is always revenge and you always get a chance to take that revenge in some tournament, it would feel really good to win against them and show ourselves that we play better against them then we did at dreamhack.

Thank you for the interview and good luck at the event, any last words?

Thank you, and thanks for the people that cheer for us :)
