DreamHack: BYOC Prediction

Day one of DreamHack Summer 2010 will see not only the Swedish WCG qualifier and IOL Season 2 Final 4, but also the infamous BYOC tournament. Each Dreamhack event the main Counter Strike tournament is left four teams short in order to give relatively unknown teams the chance at playing in a big tournament.

There are currently 32 teams competing in the BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) competition but only four spots available in the main tournament. Obviously every tournament has its favourites, so I thought I would break down the team list and present you with my opinion on the who the main contenders are and who has an outside chance.

Main Contenders

fnatic female - In the female eSport scene there are two dominant Counter Strike teams: SK Gaming and Fnatic. The Fnatic side is full to the brim with talent, skill and experience, so taking one of the four spots for these should be no problem. The only worry is unlike SK's female team, fnatic have not competed in an event with other male teams which could prove to be a slight problem, but nothing too much to put them out the competition.

against All authority - Although the aAa team have not shown their faces at any recent LAN events, they still have the potential to secure a spot in the main tournament. Not long ago they made a change to their lineup which lead them to a fourth place finish in the French EPS season, so they are certainly not short of skill.

Expert Gaming - Lately this side have been improving a lot, with promising results at the Gathering where they beat the UK team of Dignitas and took an impressive 14 rounds off Playzone.fi. Since then, they have been invited to GameGune, which proves they are making an impact on the scene. With their experience from previous events they should make it through and take a spot in the main tournament.

eSuba - Back in late 2009 the eSuba team competed in the IEM European Championship main round, where they ultimately failed to qualify but pulled off some decent results. Playing teams like SK, oXmoze and n!faculty on the way will definitely give them some much needed experience, which can prove to make all the difference against some of the smaller teams.

Outside Chance

Begrip swe - When competing in the IOL 2010 Finals, the Begrip side beat Online Kingdom, LedPC and h2k-Gaming. But the lineup which brought in those victory's is a little different now, so its hard to tell if they can go all the way or not. I'm not completely certain the team can take a spot, which is why they are sitting as an outside chance.

There are a total of 32 teams in the BYOC competition, which you can view here, sadly Playzone.fi and Dignitas are not at the event.
