Blizzard has released the first information about European qualification for Blizzcon. The Korean qualification for Blizzcon has been underway for some time now. But this morning Blizzard announced some slivers of information about the European qualifier. The players that make it to Blizzcon will have to first go through the "European Invitational" on August 7. The event will be held in Cologne, Germany.
Six Warcraft III players will be invited from the top of the battle.net ladder. The final two spots will be filled by last year's finalists: Pedro 'LucifroN' Moreno Durán and Manuel 'GrubbY' Schenkhuizen. With Starcraft II's release due a couple of weeks before the event, whether or not Lucifron will accept the invite remains to be seen. The Spaniard made some waves in the first phase of SC2 beta and may wish to concentrate fully on the new game.
In World of Warcraft, eight teams will be invited to Cologne based on previous results. The top two finishing teams at the Invitational will qualify for Blizzcon so exactly what this means for the tournament realm is unclear. But WoW players will welcome another LAN event on the scene, however it fits into Blizzard's plans.
