rapha wins EG Masters Cup, collects $2,000

ImageThe first EG Masters Cup has gone the way of SK Gaming's Quake star rapha after he defeated DaHanG 3-0 in the grand final.

Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson has added another accolade to his list of awards. The American just defeated Tim 'DaHanG' Fogarty twice to pick up $2,000 and an MSI GT660 laptop.

After powering through his previous games rapha continued to impress throughout the two best-of-five matches, winning the first 3-0 and the second 3-1.

To claim the title of EG Masters Cup champion Team EG's very own DaHanG was the last hurdle in a tournament that, all along, only had one final lined up. The two Americans have forged a fierce rivalry that has never failed to disappoint.

While the scoreline looks one-sided, all three of the maps had intriguing starts. For the opening five minutes on t7 both players refused to concede a frag, dm6 saw the pair trade kills almost instantly, and t9 looked promising for DaHanG thanks to his superior spawn until rapha sneaked in a mega pick-up just over a minute after the off and completely shifted the game's momentum.

t7, the opener, saw a double overtime after the scores were locked at 2-2. With rapha at almost certain death he made a gutsy move for the red armor and it paid off, as the decision proved the backbone for four successive frags and the map win.

dm6 was the highest scoring game at 16-7 with rapha continually patrolling the map and restricting DaHanG from finding a comfort zone. The same method applied to t9 where, after a bad start, rapha stole a mega from straight underneath his opponent's nose and made the most of the benefits. Wrapping up the map 11-7 and the series 3-0, rapha had pocketed a cool $2,000.

But that wasn't it for the two players as they had another series to play, this time for an MSI GT660 laptop.

Reeling off the back of a sharp 3-0 defeat DaHanG seemed totally out of the game on ztn, reflected by a harsh 11--2 scoreline. He refused to lie down, though, and came back strong on t9 despite being punished by some outrageous rockets from rapha and came out on top 9-6, bringing the score to 1-1. The intensity carried through to dm13 where a far closer game ensued, but rapha had the edge when it came to clutch situations, which included hiding in a corner. He eased to victory on the final map, t7 (11-4), to secure his second prize of the evening.

The online tournament, which was casted by djWHEAT and Slasher, may not have brought about many surprises but a good number of the games were quite the spectacle. Presumably the VODs will be up on his website soon.

EG Masters Cup results:

1st - Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson - $2,000 + MSI GT660 laptop
2nd - Tim 'DaHanG' Fogarty - $1,000
3rd - Brian 'dkt' Flander - $500
