SK Gaming acquires the team formerly known as NWO as its Avalon Heroes team. An introduction to the squad and an interview with captain AviatorDK are included.Today SK Gaming officially enters the world of competitive Avalon Heroes by acquiring the team formerly known as New World Order (NWO) to represent it.
For those unfamiliar with Avalon Heroes it is described as follows at mmohut.com:
The team's captain, AviatorDK, gave a short interview about his team and this new opportunity:
Provide a basic history of the team and your role within it.
Alright, well, I've been the leader of NWO in Avalon Heroes since [closed beta]. I started NWO, thinking this might go big like DotA. So from the start, I recruited serious gamers that aimed specifically for leagues/cups. We've won every cup in ESL, except one 2v2 opening cup #2, which we were placed second in.
Most members take this game seriously, as other gamers, and I have to say we are the best in this game before, now and will be the best in the future as well.
Do you have any history playing other online games competitively?
Yeah, I've tried DoTA, CS, AION, Lineage I, Lineage II, AVA, etc. You name them, I have experienced almost all MMOPRGs out there ;) But I was never in gaming groups like this, or should I say gaming clans.
Explain basically how your team works in terms of setup, roles and strengths.
I always tell everyone in the guild to practice random, so they know everything about all heroes out there. The more they know about each hero, the better they will react in extreme circumstances. I always take a leader-type hero, the one that fights in front line against opposite factions. Oh and I always have at least 3 plans before we play a match so we can predict their tactics beforehand.
Which teams provide the most challenge for you? What kind of style of play or setup is most difficult for you to play against?
I'll be honest with you, right now in 5v5 we have no competitors. We sometimes even choose all random heroes to enjoy the game a bit more, but even with all randoms, enemies forfeit before their base gets destroyed ^^ But in 3v3 or 2v2, it all depends on what heroes they choose, and how fast they get spawned creeps just like DoTA.
In 3v3, my.revenge has been most challenging for us so far. In 2v2, we just dominate ;) we took the top 3 places from the last 2v2 cup.
The most difficult setup that I have to say would be a setup that copied our tactics. As a well-known guild in Avalon Heroes, people constantly copy/study our hero set-ups and tactic so we always have to think of new ones, otherwise we would end up the same as these guys.
What is the landscape like for Avalon Heroes competition as of right now? Are there LANs coming up? Are there tournaments people should be aware of?
This is not 100% confirmed, but as I hear from Korean Avalon players, there will be an international league coming up anytime in this year. There was a news post on the alaplaya website about this as well, and we're looking forward anxiously to participating in this event. Just like DoTA, this game is not so easy at first to adapt. I'm not sure about any LANs coming up, because this is a new game.
What are your thoughts on joining SK Gaming?
I've always been thinking, that SK Gaming is the world-best gaming organization in the world. I take it as an honor to be in the team to play for SK, and I can assure you that we will meet every expectations for your team.
Final thoughts?
Yea, I know there are lots of DoTA players think this is a copy of DoTA. However, I have to say this is a totally different game apart from DoTA. It requires even more concentration, more teamwork and more map reading skills. There are way more tactics included due to different maps existing in this game. I hear people saying SK should get HoN players instead of Avalon Heroes players, but I hope they understand this is a seperate game that has its own gameplay ^^
Fans will be able to follow the team's progression in Avalon Heroes competition via the SK Gaming web page.
For those unfamiliar with Avalon Heroes it is described as follows at mmohut.com:
"Avalon Heroes, called Avalon Online in Asia, is a 3D Fantasy MMO published by AlaPlaya where players choose from one of over 35 playable heroes and fight it out in against their enemies in individual matches. There is no doubt that much of the game is based off the incredibly popular Warcraft III mod ‘Defense of the Ancients’ (DOTA). Like other ‘Aeon of Strife’ games, Avalon Heroes gameplay places a great deal of emphasis on teamwork and micro-management."
