Ted won NGF this past weekend by defeating Moon in rapid style, netting himself $2,500 in the process. It's been a long time between drinks for undead fans but this weekend's victory for Zhuo 'TeD' Zeng will surely taste all the sweeter for waiting. In the NGF finals he defeated Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang 2-1 in one of the shortest finals ever. Moon seems to be making a habit of losing quickly in finals in recent months, one which he will desperately want to shake off. But Ted, who always seems to be smiling whether he wins or loses, will have little sympathy after waiting two years to win an event.
The first map, Echo Isles, started ridiculously well for Ted. He headed to Moon's merc camp to harass but by the time his deathknight arrived it was already level two thanks to his ghouls stealing almost every last hit. From there, the game only got uglier and after Moon lost his DH Ted seized his opportunity and went for an all-in ghoul rush. Moon, who was already mid-tech, simply had no answer and the was over inside five minutes.
The second map was a complete reversal, however. Moon was superb on Ancient Isle and made Ted look almost ordinary. He out-crept him, out-thought and out-microed him. It was like watching Moon of yesteryear all over again. The undead's early harass accomplished exactly nothing, while Moon's DH got level two thanks to skeleton kills. Ted never really got back in the game at all.
Twisted Meadows was the deciding map but the game got off to a slow start. Both players did a good job of denying each other experience and neither hero hit level two until after tier two. It was Moon who took the initiative with higher heroes and even a Lich kill but he was forced to TP. With both armies at just under 45 supply the game looked even but the final battle was another massacre. Ted's timing was impeccable, hitting the elf base while Moon's wells were completely empty. He overran the nightelf army with ease, barely losing a unit.
