The past 24 hours has brought us two more class previews for Cataclysm with rogues being possibly the most interesting so far.Another day, another set of class previews, and another bunch of cool new abilities. The "ninja class" of WoW is looking like moving even further into that niche with the announcement of a new skill in Cataclysm called Smoke Bomb. The ability, as its name suggests, is designed to cause mayhem and make the rogue and his teammates difficult to target. From the blue post:
The rogue class will also receive a long-awaited change in the way they swap targets. Combat Readiness will allow a player - on a one minute cooldown - to move his combo points to a new target. Versatility seems to be an overarching theme for the rogue preview and they will even be receiving a small self-Hot, presumably similar to Enraged Regeneration.
The other class to come under the microscope last night was the deathknight. In Cataclysm, the hero class will get their own dark-themed version of Mortal Strike. But instead of simply reducing healing, it can absorb healing, like a kind of reverse shield. Moreover, the rune system will get an extensive overhaul. The explanation is pretty long, but you can read the whole thing - as well as the rest of the preview - by heading to MMO-Champion.
"The rogue drops a Smoke Bomb, creating a cloud that interferes with enemy targeting. Enemies who are outside the cloud will find themselves unable to target units inside the cloud with single-target abilities. Enemies can move inside the cloud to attack, or they can use area-of-effect (AoE) abilities at any time to attack opponents in a cloud. In PvP, this will open up new dimensions of tactical positional gameplay, as the ability offers a variety of offensive and defensive uses. In PvE, Smoke Cloud can serve to shield your group from hostile ranged attacks, while also drawing enemies closer without the need to rely on conventional line-of-sight obstructions. Smoke Cloud lasts 10 seconds and has a 3-minute cooldown."
