IEM IV World Champion rapha talks about the "crazy experience" of playing in front of the CeBiT crowd to win his title, why winning Gamescom was important to him and whether he ever felt like he had slipped from the #1 spot.In part 2 of his 1on1 interview Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson, the #1 QuakeLive player in the world, remembers the experience of playing the IEM IV World Championship finals in front of "all those people standing and sitting".
rapha attempts to discern the quality which makes him stand out, or that marks him as the best in that area. In doing so he harkens back to the infamous "five steps ahead" comment which was so reviled early on in his career. As someone with an understanding of Quake's past he talks about his feelings about ESWC's death and being denied the opportunity to play in one of those tournaments in 2009.
Gamescom was a small tournament but for rapha it had a meaningful thread running up to it that made it important for him to win, find out why. What does the IEM IV champion think of the Dubai tournament he won earlier in the season? Another topic which is discussed is the brief period where his #1 status was in question due to losing at IEM IV American Finals and in the Silent Gamers Cup to DaHanG.
rapha explains why he skipped attending DreamHack Winter and whether at any point during his short slump he felt like his time as #1 might be over or coming to an end. How important is good commentary and streaming coverage of major Quake events?
