Originally proposed by Cadred.org, the hypothetical match has become a reality.

The Fnatic Counter-Strike 1.6 team will take on the dominant Reason Gaming Counter-Strike: Source team on CSPromod this Sunday, 21 March.

QuadV, with Stuart 'TosspoT' Saw, will be streaming the match starting 20:00 CET.

The Fnatic team captain, Patrik 'cArn' Sättermon, is "really looking forward to be a part of the first streamed CSP match," he said to Cadred.org.

"It's going to be a battle between two giants from two different games. At this stage we don't know if CSP going to be the title which unites 1.6 and Source but this match will hopefully put the spotlight on CSPromod which has been evolving loads of late. Make sure you tune in on QuadV and may the best team win!"

Reason Gaming team captain Marek '.PhP' Kádek shares the same feelings:

"We are looking forward to play mighty fnatic in game which probably favours them little bit by having 1.6 recoil and maps, but I hope we can give them a fight and keep the game exciting."

CSPromod main man Alex Garfield also gave his thoughts on the match-up:

"We're very excited that such high-profile teams, media, and broadcasters have come together to make this match happen. The 1.6/Source debate has been one of the Counter-Strike community's most intense dialogues over the past several years, and thus we expect this match-up to draw passionate interest from players in both camps. Furthermore, we hope that the execution of a successful exhibition match between two of the world's best Counter-Strike teams illustrates to the community how close CSPromod really is to being competitively a viable game."

The CSPromod 1.04 beta received varying levels of criticism from players of both communities, with many stating that models and movement were key issues. Will this be beneficial for the Reason Gaming players heading into the match? Or will the 1.6 recoil favor the Fnatic team despite the visual deficit?

Although nothing rides on the game, it will prove vital for the developers and the impending 1.05 release as well as give fans the opportunity to see the best of both titles duke it out.
