Ex-NoA player, CS journalist and commentator bsl talks about the CGS, REAL's inability to realize his potential and working within the esports industry. One of Norway's oldest and most famous Norwegian Counter-Strike players, Jonas Alsaker Vikan a.k.a. bsl, has been interviewed at mymym. The ex-NoA man talks about his time in the CGS, Norway's current crop of CS talent and his thoughts on working within the esports industry.
Asked to rate his top five team-mates bsl gives his perspective on REAL:
Talking about CGS' failure:
Known early on as a member of meredia/spacebar bsl first edged into the international spotlight by traveling to Brazil and helping lead mibr to progressively better placings at ESWC and CPL. From there he managed to arrive in LA for NoA, albeit via a Danish route, and that team went from underdogs to contenders in the space of a single event.
After being ousted from NoA he spent some time with TAG in the UK which marked one of the lower points of his career as they were unable to win domestically. Returning home to Norway he helped build Catch-Gamer into a team which could put Norwegian CS back on the map as it placed 2nd at WEG season 2 and later took in more of Norway's talented veterans and up and comers.
Since retiring bsl has been seen as a manager of a CGS franchise, doing commentary and in the role of journalist for GotFrag up until the CS budget disappeared. He is also famous for his 'bsl from the block' movie which is still loved to this day by some frag movie aficionados.

Asked to rate his top five team-mates bsl gives his perspective on REAL:
"I also had the dubious pleasure of playing with REAL when he was at the beginning of his career. I say dubious because he is a nice kid and all, but as I experienced and time has shown he has not been capable of utilizing his talent. And his talent for gaming is perhaps the biggest I have ever seen. It’s always sad when people can’t reach their potential, I think. Especially when they only have themselves to blame. Don’t get me wrong, he is still a top class player – the point is that he could have been up there with Neo, F0rest etc if he behaved differently."
Talking about CGS' failure:
"The gaming community’s biggest issue is that it is so “hard core.” CGS had good ratings from regular people but nobody in the community took interest. We demand that things are done a certain way for us to get behind it – and that’s a weakness. There has not been a big thing on the world scale ever where compromises has not been made. We need to acknowledge that if something that big comes along again – but I doubt it will for a long time.
The CGS crash was so loud that it was heard in a number of places where wealthy people and companies roam, unfortunately."

He's old and useless now.
if you didnt care, you would not have replied here
No it's not. It's called integrity. The CGS was a joke, a bad MTV show. The competitive aspects were sacrificed to make the games easier to follow on TV. They did not care about the players, the communities, or the games, all they wanted was to make money. I'm not saying they should not want to make money, but it was their only objective and they obviously didn't care about the rest. Why should I support an organization that transforms a legitimately competitive genre into a farce? A flashy, MTV-like farce, sure, but still a farce. The CGS did absolutely nothing for e-sports, quite the opposite. A lot of people in the scene have worked very hard to push e-sports forward and have the competitive aspects of gaming recognized as such, the CGS did the opposite.
and yes, bsl, REAL is always one of my favorite player
