DaHanG versus Strenx proved to be a tight encounter, but the American saw his superior decision making push him through to the quarter finals. The winner of this game would take the third spot in group B, securing a place in the quarter finals.
Following the release of a recent interview from Strenx, though, you could say this match had a lot more riding on it.
"Americans are more no-life than Europeans," Strenx claimed. "Do you know Buzz Lightyear? It's DaHanG," he joked.
But the American of Team EG had the last laugh.
Tim 'DaHanG' Fogarty 2-0 Kevin 'Strenx' Baeza (t9: 12-8, dm13: 9-7)
t9 opened up and played out slowly for around three minutes before anything got going. The players were feeling each other out with DaHanG cleverly evading Strenx's mighty lightning gun but things quickly heated up. DaHanG's excellent map control made his job a lot easier and helped him establish a 6-3 lead nearing half time.
Immediately after five minutes of play Strenx became aggressive and picked up two quick frags, including a crucial battle at top yellow armour which saw the score go to 6-5.
But DaHanG stepped up his map and weapon control, taking the majority of armour and health bubbles to make his frags a lot easier to come by and pulled away in the final two minutes.
With it all to do on dm13 Strenx instantly sought after his lightning gun but found trouble (DaHanG) in its place. Due to Strenx's search for items a lot of up-close battles ensued which DaHanG had a much better liking to, opening up a 5-0 lead.
After collecting a decent stack and some weapons Strenx regained control of the map and picked up some frags but that control was quickly broken, with DaHanG forcing the Frenchman into difficult situations which he had no solution for.
At 8-5 down Strenx collected 200 armour and 200 health, and made it 8-6 with 40 seconds to go. On the back foot DaHanG played defensively, making Strenx race around the entire map to make the break through he required, and as a result of the frustration DaHanG calmly picked up a frag to secure his place in the knockout stages.
