Amidst the network problems to start the IEM Global Finals, EG have beaten the heavily favored fnatic in a shocker. Interview with n0thing included.Network problems have delayed the first set of matches at the IEM Global Finals, and reports are coming in that DDOS attacks are the reason for delay. The IEM admins are quickly working on the problem and trying to resolve it as fast as possible.
In the midst of network problems, controversy has erupted between fnatic and Evil Geniuses , as well as mTw and Frag eXecutors . During the DDOS attack both matches were paused as the servers were starting to lag and freeze. During the round of the DDOS attack Harley 'dsn' Örwall was lagged for more than three seconds after shooting his weapon, which likely caused fnatic to lose the round. According to the rulebook, both teams must agree for the round to be restarted and neither Evil Geniuses nor Frag Executors agreed.
Evil Geniuses 18-12 fnatic (train – 6:9 12:3)
The North American team Evil Geniuses were coming into the IEM Global Finals fresh off a bootcamp in which they were hoping to drastically improve their tactics for this tournament. The first match of the Global Finals has concluded, and EG took down the heavily favored Swedes. Strong play by Danny 'fRoD' Montaner was crucial in their victory.
In recent tournaments, fnatic has been known for slow starts but unfortunately with such a strong group they will need to instantly turn things around if they want to move out of the group stage.
On the other hand, this is exactly what EG needed to start off the tournament on the right note. Beating one of the best teams in the world will boost their confidence heading into the next matches.
After the match, SK-Gaming's merusame caught up with n0thing to discuss the result of the game.
