SK-Gaming's Dennis "Walle" Wallenberg talks about the upcoming IEM Global Finals and shares his thoughts on the event. The IEM Global Finals are only one day away, and beforehand we had an opportunity to speak with SK Gaming 's in-game leader Dennis 'walle' Wallenberg. Answering a variety of different questions walle shares his thoughts on his new teammate Gux, what the team does at a bootcamp, and who he thinks the stiffest competition will be.
The IEM Global Finals are only one day away. Overall, how prepared do you feel heading into the event?
We are quite well prepared, having played a few days online and then we've been bootcamping at the SK office in Cologne for about a week. There are still things we would have liked to practice more but the fact that we are a bit random now might favor us too, not relying on tactics as much and improvising more.

On February 12th, it was announced that GuX would be the newest player to join SK-Gaming. How has the team adapted to accommodate him?
The transition hasn't been hard at all. He has adapted well to our game and we've changed our game also to adapt to his playing style.
Having played with GuX for a short amount of time, are you worried it might affect your performance at one of the biggest tournaments of the year?
I'm not worried that we've had too little time. Having GuX on the team gives us a huge boost as a team, even with the limited time of training we have had.
With $100,000 dedicated towards Counter-Strike, do you feel any added pressure with such a large amount of money on the line?
No, it only increases my motivation.
At the European Championship Finals, you finished in fourth place. Looking back on the tournament what do you think went wrong?
Our break over December and into January was too long definitely. Too little Counter Strike was played, we were out of shape individually and as a team - no confidence.
SK-Gaming's first match will be played on day two against MYM, what do you do before the first match of a tournament? Do you have any pre-match habits?
Nothing special. We make sure everyone knows what the game-plan is, re-freshen everyone's memory on tactics and try to figure out what the best pistol- and fourth-round would be.

The worlds best teams will be in attendance, who is going to be your toughest competition?
I think that mousesports is the team to beat right now. Fnatic will probably also be a top-contender as always. There are a lot of good teams at the tournament so I can't say one. It'll definitely be interesting to see who goes through.
Heading into an international event do you think it is harder to play against American and Asian teams because you don't get to play them as often?
They might be hard to play against because you don't really know their playing style. I still think that the likes of fnatic, mouz, mTw and Frag Executors are way better.
As you mentioned, you are bootcamping at the SK Office prior to the event, what do you do during a typical day at bootcamp?
We just play a lot more CS than we normally would from home. The big advantage is that it's a lot easier coming up with new tactics together.
If you had to pick one dark horse at the event, who would it be?
There will be no major upsets.

I would say the likes of vilden, solo, cogu, frod, ksharp, delpan and probably even lex were better with the awp. Walle is just a big time player and has a lot of big moments but I think all of the names above are more consistent and better players with the awp. Walle is probably better then most of these players riffle wise though, plus he calls strats.
