H2k release CS team, SpawN retires

ImageH2k's partial Counter-Strike team has departed from the organisation, with Abdisamad 'SpawN' Mohamed retiring from gaming.

The H2k Gaming side failed to achieve success over their four months with SpawN despite the roster containing a host of famous names. A disappointing WCG campaign was quickly followed up by a poor performance at Dreamhack Winter, and then Snajdan's illness saw the team miss the crucial IEM IV European finals.

Having added Kristoffer 'Tentpole' Nordlund and Rasmus 'GuX' Ståhl at the turn of the year the team looked promising, although another poor showing at the IOL 2010 finals halted progression. The line-up then fell apart, with Emil 'FYRR73' Karlsson joining Meet Your Makers and Rasmus 'GuX' Ståhl joining SK Gaming.

Abdisamad 'SpawN' Mohamed has made the decision to step back from playing Counter-Strike, explaining all on his blog. He will be staying in esports, developing products and focusing on esport-related activities.

"The past few months in H2k has been very turbulent. I tried to make a comeback to professional gaming because of my love to the game, but I must admit that I can’t keep up with both work and gaming at a professional level, so I have made the decision to let the younger generation take over – the competition is very good! I have had a great time in H2k and really appreciate the chance to play at a top level again, but I have realized that I am getting old and therefore I will focus my energy on other activities that can benefit eSports, such as using my professional experience and passion for the game to develop the ideal gear for professional gaming."

SpawN will also transfer his knowledge to new teams as he plans to become a coach:

"I will be staying in eSports and I can’t wait to get back to making products, meeting my fans and helping educate the new teams in counter-strike as a coach! I believe I can bring a lot to the newer teams out there and give them the extra edge they need to compete with the best, which makes me really excited as this is a new step for me in my career."

Whether Snajdan and Tentpole choose to continue on remains to be seen, although with the IEM IV World Finals coming up a poor showing from any player on any team could open up a spot for either of the two veterans.

H2k have said they will release information on their future plans for Counter-Strike "soon."

H2k Gaming's Counter-Strike team was:

Abdisamad 'SpawN' Mohamed
Mattias 'Snajdan' Andersen
Kristoffer 'Tentpole' Nordlund
