Gosu Gamers is reporting that XP League will be shutting down. The donation-based league appears to have simply run out of money. It is alleged that the next season was due to feature Chinese players but they refused due to the low prize pool. The organisers decided the league had surpassed its original "just for fun" design and pulled the plug.

However, all might not be lost. The story also claims that former XPL sponsor, Gameplex, are in discussion with Blizzard to produce a new league. What this might lead to remains to be seen.

With NGL announcing its closure this week, the WC3 scene has taken so big hits. But both leagues seemed to have a little bit of good news mixed in with the bad. NGL announced their season-end finals while XPL, as mentioned, might not quite be dead and buried.
