The quarterly report for Activision Blizzard has occured. The special news is that Blizzard Entertainment has now confirmed a beta release this month. As many fans correctly hypothesized, the beta for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty received a strong word at the quarterly conference. The beta will commence later in February, giving us a seventeen day timeframe to work with.
Another major topic regarding StarCraft II is its integration into digital gaming. With the release of Battle.net 2.0, StarCraft II will be available not only in retail stores, but will be a downloadable product offered online. Following StarCraft II's imminent release, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will launch this year, as well. Much like the original version and two preceding expansion sets, Cataclysm will be available for digital download. Although, its download will be available much sooner, as the company is aiming to be pioneers in spear-heading the digital gaming realm.
Although the two Blizzard titles were the primary interest and obvious sources of revenue intake, the Activision titles warrant much attention as well. Call of Duty was considered the most-successful title of this last year. Thus, downloadable content will be available this year, in order to expand the fronts of console eSports. Other franchises of concentration include, (although not quite so significant), include more casual games such as Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, Shrek, True Crime, Spider-Man, Blur, Singularity and James Bond 007.
To reiterate Blizzard Entertainment's position as the bell of the ball for the Activision Blizzard slate, the conference ended on a high note focusing entirely upon the Irvine company.
