ESL's European Nations Championship for 2010 will include Quake Live TDM and Counter-Strike 1.6 Female amongst its six competitive disciplines.ESL have released the competitive disciplines for their European Nations Championship in 2010. This year sees Counter-Strike 1.6 Female and Quake Live (Team Deathmatch) joining the roster of games. This brings the total number of disciplines to six.
It will be interesting to see whether Quake Live played in TDM will be able to draw in the big stars for each country, as was the case with national competitions like the BarrysWorld European Championship back in 2000 which featured all-star lineups for all the competing nations and a LAN event. TDM has struggled to remain popular and competitively relevant since the elite teams left but this opportunity for individually great players to compete without needing teams may be a good chance to see some of the game's finest on display once again in the format.
In Counter-Strike (the male discipline) Sweden have a long history of success in the tournament and will continue to be perennial favourites. Germany have also had their share of success but it will be intriguing to see if the consolidation of individual talent in mousesports will damage the national team's ability to compete. The rules for this tournament usually state that only three players from any one team may compete in a match.
