DotA to Feature Reconnection

ImageDotA developer IceFrog has announced that Varlock and himself have developed a new functionality that will allow players to reconnect to disconnected games.

According to IceFrog's latest personal blog posting, the well-known developer of the Ghost mod presented IceFrog with a new functionality that will reconnect users from dropped DotA matches. Varlock contacted IceFrog, requesting that the infamous DotA developer would endorse the new functionality and make it an integral part of the DotA mechanics features.

As described by IceFrog, the functionality will require the host user of the game to utilize this feature on Battle.net, Garena or another compatible hosting program. For the players that would want to reconnect to the still-running game, they would be running the program that gives them the option of reconnecting. Users that do not have the functionality installed on their machines will be able to still play the matches alongside the users who do have it installed. Currently, the technology is portable on Garena.

This technology may serve as a determining factor for DotA players considering switching to Heroes of Newerth. Currenlty, S2 Studios are publicizing their new title for its reconnection functionality- a feature DotA has been lacking until now.

In a closing statement from IceFrog on his official blog:
"The exact time and schedule for its release is not defined yet. The main reason for this post is to help get him feedback so he can decide how much interest people have in it and consider his schedule accordingly. If you have any thoughts you want to share with him, you can respond here and I'll relay them to him or you can email him directly at hogantp@gmail.com."
