PowerGaming: four leave for military service

ImagePowerGaming has lost four of its players to compulsory national service in the Finnish army. naSu, tihOp, ruuit and plastE have all put CS to one side for now.

As had long been suspected Power Gaming 's lineup has been decimated by Finland's compulsory national military service. Niko 'naSu' Kovanen, Tino 'tihOp' Puumala, Samu 'plastE' Aalto and Max Oskari 'ruuit' Aspe have all left the team to begin their service. Some of the players had postponed a number of times and thus could not delay it any further and with the team being broken up from its ideal lineup it only makes sense the younger members would take their service now also.

The only member of the team not to leave, natu, told HLTV.org:

"This is a sad end to a team that was coming back to the top of the scene. Unfortunately there wasn´t much that could have been done as military service is obligatory in Finland and there´s only so far you can postpone it. Some of the guys had already postponed it a few times due to their CS careers but that wasn´t possible anymore.

I myself intend to keep playing the game as the experience with the guys on the latter half of 2009 was very encouraging and the spark to play was there again."

PowerGaming had grown in leaps and bounds over the year as they won the Finnish WCG qualifier, then took on ruuit and plastE to strengthen their lineup. At the WCG they took eventual gold medalists AGAiN to three maps and lost by the closest possible margin in that third map. For WEM the team used contE, long time ex-team-mate of them all, since natu had work commitments. In China they were able to place 2nd, with a group stage victory over champions fnatic on train being a feather in their cap.

If this should be the last the competitive Counter-Strike scene sees of these players, which based on the ages of the younger ones may not be the case, then Finland will have lost some players who would without a doubt be considered in the top 5 of all time the country has produced.
