In one of the most upset-ridden tournaments in Halo history, the seventh seeded Believe the Hype squad have emerged victors of the 2009 national championships. The team went undefeated through the entire tournament, taking down three of Halo's biggest names in Final Boss, Instinct and Str8 Rippin on the way to their massacre of team Classic in the grand final. The catalyst of the team's success was Daniel 'Demon D' Yakovleff who put in several remarkable performances including a combined kill-to-death ratio of +33 in the final two games.
Despite opening up their 2009 campaign with a third place finish in Meadowlands Believe the Hype struggled to recreate their form throughout the remainder of the regular season events, hitting a high point of fifth and dropping to a point as low as ninth in Dallas.
Stepping up at the final event of the year sets Believe the Hype in good shape for what is set to be a dramatic off-season.
Final standings:
1st - Believe the Hype - $100,000
2nd - Classic - $60,000
3rd - Carbon - $40,000
4th - eon Instinct - $28,000
5th - Triggers Down - $20,000
6th - Str8 Rippin - $14,000
7th - Dynasty - $10,000
8th - compLexity Final Boss - $8,000
Aside from Believe the Hype winning the tournament the talking point of the competition will be surrounding the power houses of Str8 Rippin and Triggers Down who both fell to lower seeded opposition in their first games. Unable to regroup from shock defeats in their lower bracket matches sees them finishing in place of where Believe the Hype and Classic were predicted by many to be.
Classic's tournament run will also be highly spoken of after knocking the number one ranked team Triggers Down into the lower bracket and, having lost themselves, defeating an in-form Carbon side in the lower bracket final to hit top two for the first time since the start of 2008.
