MLG: fnatic, PwR and LLL all advance

ImageThe three European Halo 3 teams in Orlando have all bested their day one opponents and will continue playing tomorrow.

fnatic, Power Gaming and LowLandLions have gathered the support of the entire European console community as their Halo 3 teams have traveled to the final stop of the 2009 MLG season in Orlando. The first day has seen them all progress to round three of the winners bracket where the level of competition will begin to ramp up.

Reports

The Power Gaming side, still hyped up off their 19th place finish in the previous MLG stop in Anaheim, had no real problems in their one and only game. Securing the 21st seed gave the team a bye in the first round, maybe disadvantageous to some due to the momentum factor needed in Halo 3, but before the competition even began Power went on a 25-game winning streak on a practice station.

Their opponents were the 135th seeded Sons of Liberty and were quickly brushed aside two games to nil. Tomorrow they will play in winners bracket round three against Impact.

Absentees from the last two big European events LowLandLions also progressed with no problems. With Orlando being their first MLG competition they were awarded a random seed: 149th. The Dutch side strolled past first round opposition Green Goo Kangaroos with Zyldjian 'ForReal' Neidig recording an impressive zero deaths over the series.

Waiting for them in the second round were the 39th seeded team ReborN. In a reportedly heated series LowLandLions carried over the energy from their round one destruction and toppled the higher-seeded squad to make it two straight victories over four maps. Should they keep their momentum going to the final round of the open bracket they will theoretically face off against the team who knocked Power Gaming into the lower bracket in Anaheim: Take Respect.

fnatic, who placed second at Multiplay i38 under SK Gaming, have had a rough ride and are the only European team to have dropped a map so far. Their matchup versus Island Bwoyz was a whitewash but according to reports from the venue they had an "incredibly shaky start in their first game" and despite winning 50 kills to 38 it was at a point "tied up in the 30s".

Advancing to round two saw the team surprisingly drop a map, specifically Narrows team slayer. Despite Narrows being a heavily sniper-based map and fnatic holding one of Europe's best snipers in Daniel 'ZicKneX' Rosenberg the side lost 50 kills to 47. The second game type, Narrows capture the flag, saw the fnatic team win but not how they'd have liked to - unable to finish off a two flag lead - as time ran out before they could capture the third and final flag to brand it a comprehensive victory.

Their wariness again showed in the decisive final game, team slayer on Construct, which saw them come out on top 50 kills to 47. With their anxious debut now behind them the team can relax for the night and prepare for a tough series of games tomorrow, kicking off against 11th seeded Dirty Ghetto Kids.

Meanwhile with the championship bracket kicking off tomorrow, MLG held their annual all-star classic which saw the West coast trump the East coast for the first time in the history of the competition. After the West coast pulled ahead three games to one the East mounted what would have been a fantastic comeback, leveling out the series at 3-3, but the West coast roster dominated the final game to take bragging rights and the title 4-3.

From 3PM GMT/4PM CET tomorrow www.mlgpro.com will be streaming the action live.
