On the evening following a serene Christmas day, HLTV.org began its Player of the Decade series with the "Best AWP of the Decade" award. The five contestants featured included Kyle 'ksharp' Miller of Team3D , Raphael 'cogu' Camargo of Made in Brazil , Danny 'fRoD' Montaner of Evil Geniuses , Dennis 'walle' Wallenberg of SK Gaming and Harley 'dsn' Örwall of fnatic . After an intense matchup between cogu and walle, the scales went unbalanced in the final hours and walle claimed his just award.

Initially, cogu began the polls with a weighty lead of 41%, with walle far behind with 29%, followed closely by dsn, leaving fRoD and Ksharp far behind. However, after we reported walle's nomination, his numbers grew considerably and the scales evened out between him and cogu, within the 35 percentile range. Over the next few days, there would be shifts between the numbers, with some times in walle's favor and others in cogu's. However, the HLTV.org staff took notice to identical IP addresses between accounts and realized that some users were creating puppet accounts to shift the scale in cogu's favor. Therefore, all extraneous accounts in violation of codes of conduct were deleted.

This hit shortly before the closing of the vote, giving walle a 35% lead, in comparison to cogu's 32% after the administrative action. The percentages remained consistent unto the closing of polls, therefore securing walle's recognition for Best AWP of the Decade.
