New details about the PvP system in Cataclysm are being released on a near daily basis. The run-up to patch 3.3 was a pretty slow time for PvPers in World of Warcraft. But with Icecrown instances now live on all servers, Blizzard is finally giving the PvP forums some loving again.
First up on Friday was the "bring the player" idea and how it relates to PvP. Ghostcrawler was very candid, admitting that it was more of a PvE philosophy. "I'm not sure there's ever going to be a way you can just grab random people and expect to accomplish much in a competitive Arena," he said.
The age-old issue of class balance was also addressed yet again. "We've spent too much effort balancing around specific specs instead of teams," he admitted. However, he did add that Blizzard have moved away from that approach. From the official forum:
Finally, Ghostcrawler looked a into the future and explained a little about how the battleground reward system will work in future. "If you're awesome, you have access to the best gear. If you're not as awesome, *or* if you're new, then you don't have access to that gear," he said. "But you have access to the gear just a tier behind." He also made it clear that leeching will not be a viable way to reach that top tier: "Rated BGs are not designed to give players who just want to lose their way through a bunch of battlegrounds Gladiator-level loot."

"What we are doing now is looking in terms of a, typically 3-player, team. What does a Balance druid bring to the table? Why would you want a warlock instead of a Frost mage? Those types of questions. We want to make sure there is at least one viable comp for each spec and then we can adjust those specs by answering the question: Okay, why is A being brought more than B?"

However, with an expansion coming up, they still got a chance to fix it. But personally I doubt they will. They just want it to be for the casual gamer these days, and even though I'm a casual gamer(at least when it comes to WoW) I dislike the way it is. I think more hardcore players deserve better gear than the casual ones. But I guess I'm near enough the only casual WoW-player whom thinks in that direction.
fuck ghostcrawler, worst head developer for a game in the history of mankind
