TitaNs complete epic victory over MYM

ImageTitaNs have beaten the DreamHack Winter champions MYM on inferno in both teams' second group game at WEM 2009.

The common cliche at the moment is that Asian teams play better in Asia and that they are all good enough for an upset here or there. It must be understood though that TitaNs are the Asian team with perhaps the worst conditions, especially compared to Western teams, as far as attempting to go up against the best goes. Their pool of practice partners is horrifyingly shallow, they get tough tournament draws over and over and few people really know their lineup in any detail.

Tonight none of that matters as the Singaporean based team who crashed out of DreamHack Winter in 9th-16th have beaten the champions of that tournament, Meet Your Makers swe, to ensure their fate will rest in their own hands for the final game of the group.

A fast start had the underdogs leading big but then back came the Swedes to make the half close. In the second TitaNs once again pushed their lead but then had to fight tooth and nail to grind out their victory and make at least a few casual observers sit up and take notice of them.

Meet Your Makers swe 12:18 TitaNs (inferno 6:9 6:9)

First half

The game began ominously enough for the Swedes as MODDDII was knifed in the alley at B on the pistol round and TitaNs ran the score up to 5:0. Before the Swedes could even stop their heads spinning and figure out what was going on the scoreline had reached 8:1 for TitaNs, as everything they did seemed to go in their favour. At this point MYM woke up from their daze and began to play up to the level one expects, nay demands, from a team who want to be considered amongst the elite at that fnatic/AGAiN type level.

Now it was the TitaNs' turn to have the other side beat them to the punch in all the key moments and the score sat at only 8:6 now for the Singaporean-Malaysian mixed team. TitaNs took the last round to at least push the lead back up to three, but one had to wonder whether or not this was where MYM took over and made us all forget TitaNs once led the game.

Second half

TitaNs won their CT pistol and once again were showing that this wasn't some fluke or a couple of rounds going their way, they were proving themselves the better team over and over against top tier Swedish competition. MYM were fighting hard, taking back rounds through seemingly pure skill alone with Delpan and MODDII doing their best to headshot their team back into the game. Indeed TitaNs would win rounds but then lose a few in a row to keep the pressure on them, knowing MYM were furiously trying to catch up.

It was TitaNs who would seal the game the way they had started it though and they took it much to the delight of the fans who cheered both teams but especially big round wins from TitaNs.

It had been a true team effort for the underdogs as extreMe had helped push them out to their first half lead, then StrykerX and syck had played as a deadly combo at banana as CT. Rounding out the performance can bali and techducK who took the key kills in the last few round wins for TitaNs to complete an epic victory which shook MYM, who are now eliminated, and left TitaNs with dreams of making it to the semi-finals if they can overcome TyLoo on dust2.
