Grubby: "I kinda gave up hope of advancing"

ImageIn an interview with ShadowLeague Grubby talked about the league and his recent trouble at IEF when he found himself in a group of death which proved too difficult to get out of.

World famous Dutch Orc player Manuel 'GrubbY' Schenkhuizen has been interviewed by ShadowLeague. Grubby's discusses his form at recent tournaments like IEF and WCG as well as his proposal to Cassandra at Blizzcon.

Asked what he thought of the ShadowLeague concept Grubby answered:

"I think the idea of the old-fashioned tournament and map pool is nice, but the matches I enjoy watching most is where the players are also playing old-fashioned strategies (like how Bjarke and FarSeer are playing). The second best thing, is where retired players are playing very good like Sweet and FoV for example."

Talking about his tough group at IEF which saw him face Lyn, Infi and SocceR he explains:

"Actually, after I lost the first map to Infi, and he ended up winning his 2nd map against SocceR as well, I was out by 99% chance probability. I won against Lyn, but I had a 1-1 record against Infi's 2-0, with only one person advancing. Infi's last match was against Lyn who had no chance of advancing. Even if he tried his best, he had no real motivation to win that game. I'd have to win against SocceR and Lyn would have to win against Infi, and then it'd be a three-way tie. I kinda gave up hope of advancing, even though I should have fought for the 1% chance. With the "1 passes out of 4", the first single Bo1 match probably determines whether you can make it or not."

Grubby remains one of the most popular WarCraft III players in the world but his form in the last few months of 2009 has not lived up to his lofty reputation. After securing a very solid 2nd at Blizzcon Grubby has had to settle for a miserable 9th-12th at IEM IV Chengdu, 5th-13th at IEF and 5th-8th at WCG.
