The groups have been decided for the IEM American Championship. EG and coL are separated and will have to wait until the playoffs to meet, should they qualify. The two groups for the IEM American Championship Finals have been set. The event will take place in Edmonton, Canada, at the West Edmonton Hall from December 11th to the 13th.
The top two of each group progresses to the semi-finals to fight for the crown.
Group A
Evil Geniuses
MoB Gaming
Frag Dominant Canada
Team Devious
Group B
Sway Gaming
Exigent
compLexity
TBA
With the groups divided as they are fans will have to wait until the semi-finals or final to see favourites EG and coL facing off, both replete with their new lineups. With coL coming off a 3rd at DreamHack Winter and EG battling it out right now at Arbalet Cup Europe this event will be the next round in the heavyweight between these two teams.
With MiBR having being released it seems reasonable to imagine FireGamers may yet fill the final spot in Group B which remains open. Last year's finals saw the Brazilian representatives, MiBR, winning the event over an x3o team who had outdone their US rivals to take 2nd. MiBR member bit1 later said in an interview "we won ESL Philadelphia but it did little to put things back on track because it was a tournament with just weak teams". One wonders if perhaps the coL members who played in that x3o team will remember that statement or not at this finals.
