The Swedes from Coldfrag are far from household names but once again they have claimed the scalp of a big name as they took down the American Evil Geniuses on train. After Evil Geniuses took care of Alternate on dust2 one would have expected them to come out strong on train, a map where fRoD practically lives as CT. Instead it was the last minute replacements, for H2k, Coldfrag who once more proved they have something worth taking notice of on train. After beating mTw.dk on it at DreamHack, an mTw.dk who later looked very impressive, the Swedish underdogs again pulled the upset beating the Americans narrowly.
Evil Geniuses 14:16 Coldfrag (train 6:9 8:7)
First half
What looked to be a close game in the first half saw EG as CTs down 5:6 only for Coldfrag to once again push a lead out. On the 12th round Zyppe put the Swedes 3v2 outside before lurppis and lidde kills make it 2v1 against Storm. As so often seems to be the case the American got the first kill to give himself a chance at the clutch, Zyppe was able to finish the round though and make it 7:5. Coldfrag continued to roll and EG were left only able to take the last round thanks to two Storm kills, 9:6 Coldfrag and the prospect of another upset was on the cards.
Second half
In their upset against mTw.dk Coldfrag had been up big as CT and then struggled to grind out the rounds needed to win the game until it was all or nothing. This game they would see them in a much more favourable position needing seven as CT, a side they had shown strength on against those Danes.
The Americans won the pistol round after it came down to gfn and Storm 2v1 against Zyppe outside at the bombtrain. The lead went to 4:0 thanks to two kills from n0thing and Storm. In the 6th the Swedes looked to break EG's run as two kills from Xist put the round at a 5v3 for Coldfrag but a gfn kill, three kills from lurppis and a Storm kill were the right formula for another EG round win.
6:0 up and the game 12:9 in their favour EG lost their momentum as Coldfrag got onto the board for the second half thanks to three kills from Xist at outside. Coldfrag took another as EG got the bomb down 3v5 inside but traded kills down to 2v4 before pronax took out the last two. The game was tied on the 9th round as two kills from barbarr turned into three and then pronax contributed two kills to close out another round, 12:12 overall. EG took back the 10th after Zyppe appeared to lag out inside allowing gfn to watch him for a while then kill him. Left on his own barbarr saved in Spawn.
With the game in the balance Coldfrag put together their win with a run of good defense at outside, primarily. Map point came on the 13th round as barbarr put the round into a 2v1 which became a 1v1 when Storm killed him. pronax was outside and Storm headed through CT spawn to the Z-hall in an attempt to flank/trick him but pronax was up to the task and took the kill, 15:13 Coldfrag. Victory came the very next round as two kills from pronax were once again on the menu and EG unsuccessfully hit inner.
Taking the last round after Coldfrag had hit 16 was a minor consolation to EG, who at least managed to lose by the minimum.
