WEM: fnatic and AGAiN with stand-ins

ImageTwo of the favourites to win the World Esports Masters in December will be playing with replacement players, it has been reported. AGAiN will be without TaZ and fnatic without GuX.

The WCG finalists fnatic and AGAiN will both be attending the World Esports Masters from December 12th-20th with stand-ins, it is being reported.

HLTV.org is reporting that the Swedish team will be without Rasmus 'GuX' Ståhl who has "family commitments and is moving during the time of the event". This also helps explain why fnatic are not attending the Arbalet Cup Europe this weekend. No word has been put out regarding who their replacement will be for the Chinese event.

Sam "zr0" Mathews, Managing Director of fnatic, told the site:

"It seems many things have come at once and has meant with the time between tournaments and people having commitments has meant that it has severely affected our preparation for the events in December, to adequately prepare for WEM without GUX we will need time to go back to the roots and get thing on track once again. However, we will try our best to bring our A game to WEM, that you have come to expect and love about the CS 1.6 team in 2009."

mymym is reporting that the Polish WCG gold medalists will be without their in-game leader Wiktor 'TaZ' Wojtas. Instead they will use Jarosław 'pasha' Jarząbkowski of PGS.

fnatic decided to attend DreamHack Winter at the last minute but fell in the quarter-finals of the playoffs in a surprising upset to an mTw.dk side without their star AWPEr Sunde. The Swedes had looked to every bit like the favourite for the event as they overcame a first half deficit on tuscan by winning twelve rounds in a row to take the first map. Then they proceeded to win the first half of each other of the other two maps only to fall to the Danes in the rounds that mattered later on in each.

With the core of fnatic still in place though one could forsee them being able to play to a high level despite this loss. What may be more interesting is to see how AGAiN cope without their in-game leader and a player who is the only one to never leave the side even temporarily.
