2008 esports award player of the year winner Christoffer 'Sunde' Sunde may miss the IEM IV European Championship Finals for mTw . The Finals were originally scheduled to take place at CeBIT along with the Global Finals in March, as was the case earlier this year. Now the finals will be moved by ESL to some time in January, which could conflict with Sunde's travel plans which will have him returning on January 21st.

Sunde is currently in Peru as part of an extended vacation previously reported. In his absence mTw.dk used anizz as a stand-in for DreamHack Winter and shocked the world by gelling by the time they had reached the playoffs enough to defeat SK Gaming and fnatic back-to-back. After romping past coL they reached the finals against MYM where they were able to force a third map, thanks to an incredible overtime game on nuke, but lost in that deciding map to finish 2nd. By then any shock had turned to amazement at the level the team was able to accomplish in such a short space of time.

Now the question is whether or not anizz will continue as the team's replacement for Sunde at the IEM IV European Championship Finals as well and if the team continues to maintain that high level of play whether or not it could tip them in the direction of taking him in as a sixth man or something similar. Nothing of the sort has been suggested by mTw.dk, in fact zonic denied exactly that kind of situation in this video interview, but stranger things have certainly happened and winning will always hold the power to change minds. That said it seems very unlikely any amount of success could see them replace Sunde or relegate him from the core lineup due to impact his play has had on the team ever since he joined.

When Sunde joined in 2007 the team reached the finals of ESWC a couple of months later, a major milestone for a team who had struggled to get past the top 4 of major tournaments, and Sunde himself played exceptionally well in that series despite the loss. They then secured themselves WCG Silver medals months later. Then with the addition of whiMp the mTw.dk success train really got going to full speed, though it is worth noting that it was just the introduction of whiMp but also the replacement of hpx as the primary AWPer with Sunde.
