Sweden's public service tv broadcaster SVT will be broadcasting games online from DreamHack Winter live with ex-Counter-Strike champion quick taking the hosting duties.Sweden's public service tv broadcaster SVT will be broadcasting games and coverage of DreamHack Winter live over the internet. Hosting the transmissions will be ex-professional gamer Miguel "quick" Bonett, champion of ESWC and Clikarena in 2003.
This marks the first time a Swedish television channel has attempted to broadcast an event live. The SVT studio is located in the City University where quick will host and be joined by commentators to help broadcast the action.
Translating his statement from Swedish quick roughly said the following when talking about the opportunity:
Games which will be included in the broadcast will be World of WarCraft, Counter-Strike, Street Fighter 4 and QuakeLive. The games will be viewable online via SVT's website where their player works off experimental P2P distribution technology meaning the viewer sends stream information to others in the vicinity while watching.
Schedule:
svt.se/dreamhack Fri 27 Nov at 13.45-23.45
svt.se/dreamhack Sat 28 Nov at 15.00-23.45
SVT is a government owned television channel, as opposed to a privately owned for-profit channel, so this marks a significant step in the legitimizing of Esports as a valid spectator sport within Sweden.
See quick explaining what DreamHack is and the games to be played in this piece here, in Swedish most of the time naturally. There is also an English interview with Prasad "StrykerX" Paramajothi of TitaNs.
The production team behind the event is amok studios.

"There is a huge interest in Sweden for LAN games and SVT's webcast from Dreamhack gives everyone the opportunity to follow the games. I and the expert commentators watching this just like a regular sporting event and we intend to give viewers all they need to know to keep up with the drama"
